2-13-2007 By Tom Grace Cooperstown News Bureau COOPERSTOWN _ The Otsego County Board of Representatives and other organizations are working on a proposal to ask for federal money to modernize telecommunications in the county. At the board’s Feb. 7 meeting, Roy Althiser, the county’s communications director, said that groups, including area schools and the Otsego County Chamber, hope to work with the county in applying for a $15 million federal grant through the office of U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. The money would be used to upgrade the county’s emergency-communications system and to bring high-speed Internet and cellular-telephone service to all of the county, Althiser said...
